Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) hosted the Rocky Mountain State Park Executive Conference (RMSPEC) in Newport, Oregon April 17-20.
More than 100 park professionals from 14 states around the country gathered to connect, grow their leadership skills, and learn more about resource management.
Following welcoming messages from tribal and elected officials, daily programming featured a public leadership series session from keynote speaker Dr. Craig W. Shinn and a workshop session focused on natural, historic, and cultural resource management in Oregon.
To complement the daily workshop topics, attendees spent afternoons out in the field with park staff, touring sites, and getting up close and personal with natural, historic, and cultural management challenges.
Oregon’s beautiful landscapes and dramatic weather did not disappoint and exemplified the conference’s theme of resilience with incredible views, significant features, and scenic drives in a dramatic mix of sunshine, wind, rain, and hail.
Thank you to the OPRD staff who planned and supported the event and to all those who work at the agency to protect and share these public resources and lands.
The RMSPEC website includes photos of the event, slide presentations for each day (including overviews of the ocean shore and historic properties) and additional information for anyone who would like to learn more.
The next RMSPEC will be held in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho May 14-16, 2024.
