NASPD Spring Meetings Shape the Future

Apr 15, 2026

Each spring two planning meetings happen that help ensure America's State Parks continue to serve our directors and support our industry, our organizations Board meeting and the State Park Leadership School reagents meeting. Taking place in very different parts of the country these two meetings help to review progress of our programs and plan for the future. Park professionals give up some time in their own state to discuss projects, plan for programs and provide direction for our organization.

Though the two host sites couldn't be geologically more different, the passion was the same, for the work and the site. In Southern Utah we worked to review partnerships, align our strategic goals, hear from strategic partners, plan for opportunities to connect and review the past years successes. Of course, we are Park people, so we also took time to explore some great parks in southern Utah. Exploring and learning about the operations at Sand Hollow and Snow Canyon State Parks as well as Zion National Park, allowed our board to learn about not just some different resources, but the unique programs offered at these sites.

In Georgia we were given the unique experience of staying on an island only accessible by ferry, Sapelo Island. Here the Leadership School team welcomed new instructors and reviewed all of the feedback from the students in this years school. Together they made adjustments to the program offered and planned for what next January, the 20th year of the program, would like for the 160 students from around the country. The school has had students from every state and Canada, and is taught by Park Directors current and past, bringing real life experience to share with tomorrow's leaders. The reagents met in the historic Reynolds Mansion and toured the property with a dedicated Georgia team who shared some great stories about the challenges of managing a property on an island.

America's State Parks protect and provide access to almost 10,000 of our country's best resources. Our teams work tirelessly to provide access and exceptional customer service experiences, the work of these leaders will help ensure we are able to support these teams for generations to come.
