This is a Law Enforcement Park Superintendent and applicant must be a certified Peace Officer or must be eligible for certification by waiver of previous training in accordance with provisions of Section 29-1-10 NMSA 1978.

This position is responsible to lead, direct and manage the day-to-day operations of Pecos Canyon State Park.  This position is responsible for the protection and management of natural and cultural resources, visitor services, interpretation/education programs, facility management and maintenance. Ensure Department, Division and Park policy, goals and objectives are met through the supervision of staff responsible for various park programs which include public land use and management, administration, budget, human resources, building and facility maintenance, equipment and tool maintenance, interpretation/education programs, volunteers, marketing and public relations. 

Supervise and oversee the management of the operations and maintenance at Pecos Canyon State Park, including implementation of day-to-day operations according to the policies, procedures and standards of care; tracking and implementation of all programs relating to the basic operations and maintenance of the park. Community engagement and coordination of shared goals and objectives. Programs include interpretive, trails, reservations, ADA, Safety/OSHA, YCC and all maintenance and preventative maintenance programs. Purchases of supplies and contractual services. Addressing personnel issues and working with other agencies. Ensure the safety of our staff and visitors. Protection of the Parks natural resources, equipment, vehicles, and buildings. Ensuring that all grounds and facilities are safe and well-maintained while working within a budget. Ensuring that all facilities are in compliance with all applicable Standards of Care, Department and Division rules and regulations, State and Federal statutes, etc. Personnel issues, such as hiring, discipline and possible termination. This position requires multi-tasking and prioritization of objectives under strict, disciplined and at times uncontrollable circumstances regarding many of the aspects required for successful completion of long- and short-term objectives. The ability for this position to coordinate and communicate within the Division regarding all aspects of management is critical to the success of the position and its role within the Division.

- Forest management knowledge.
- Project coordination and management.
- Strong working knowledge of parks and recreation management with experience in Law Enforcement.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation Management, Environmental Sciences, Forestry, Criminal Justice, or Wildlife Management from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of experience in parks and recreation management, natural resources, biology, environmental sciences, forestry, criminal justice, and/or wildlife management. A hiring agency may designate a portion of the required experience to include supervisory and/or specialized experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or universtiy in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Must be a certified NM peace officer.
