NASPD seeks a visionary and dynamic President/Chief Executive Officer to lead our organization into its next chapter of growth and influence.
The mission of the National Association of State Park Directors is to promote and advance the state park systems of America for their own significance, as well as for their important contributions to the nation’s environment, heritage, health and economy.
The National Association of State Park Directors (NASPD) is devoted to helping state park systems effectively manage and administer their state park system.
The Association is composed of fifty state park directors, plus territories of the United States of America, have full membership privileges in the organization. The Association has also established memorandums of understanding (MOU’s) with what is referred to as Associates and Affiliates that share common goals. Honorary membership in the Association may also be conferred on any former member that has served at least three years as a state park director.
The Association is organized into six regions based on reasonable geographical groupings of members. The direction and management of the Association is vested in a Board of Directors comprised of ten members representing the six regions, Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary-Treasurer and Past Chair. NASPD board members representing each region of the country will govern the America’s State Parks alliance. On behalf of the members, the day-to-day responsibilities of the Association is performed by a paid staff person, referred to as the President/Chief Operating Officer.
NASPD seeks a visionary and dynamic President/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead our organization into its next chapter of growth and influence. The CEO will be responsible for guiding NASPD’s strategic direction, advocating for state parks at the national level, and ensuring that the organization effectively serves its members and affiliates. This role requires a leader with exceptional strategic thinking, a passion for conservation and public service, and the ability to inspire and mobilize diverse stakeholders, including current and future park visitors.
Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement strategic initiatives that align with NASPD’s mission and goals. Provide visionary leadership to drive the organization’s growth and impact.
Advocacy and Representation: Act as the primary spokesperson for NASPD, representing the interests of state parks at the federal, state, and local levels. Advocate for policies and funding that support the preservation and enhancement of America’s State Parks. With this representation the CEO/President is required to travel frequently (national and international/Canada) to advocate and advance Americas State Parks.
Membership Engagement: Foster strong relationships with NASPD members and stakeholders. Enhance member services and support and ensure that NASPD remains a vital resource for state park directors.
Operational Excellence: Oversee the daily operations of NASPD, including financial management, program development, and board preparation, support and leadership. Ensure that the organization operates efficiently and effectively.
Fundraising and Development: Lead fundraising efforts to secure financial support for NASPD’s initiatives. Cultivate relationships with donors, partners, and sponsors to advance the organization’s mission.
Experience: A minimum of 10 years of executive leadership experience, with a proven track record of strategic management, advocacy, and organizational development. Experience in the conservation, recreation or public land management field is highly desirable.
Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a diverse team, manage complex projects, and build consensus among stakeholders.
Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal, written communication and public speaking skills, with the ability to effectively advocate for NASPD’s mission and engage with a wide range of audiences.
Strategic Thinking: Strong strategic planning skills with the ability to navigate complex political and organizational landscapes.
