Job Responsibilities

Sesquicentennial State Park, affectionately known to locals as "Sesqui," is a spacious, green getaway in the heart of the Sandhills region. Once you're immersed in the 1,400 acres of pines, camping sites, and nature trails you forget just how close you are to bustling, downtown Columbia, South Carolina.

Camping sites are available to overnight guests. The park provides kayak and canoe rentals, fishing, two nature trails and a 6-mile bicycle loop for day-use recreation.

Job Purpose and Duties:

Assists with overall operation and maintenance of Sesquicentennial State Park. Performs diversified duties as governed by general instruction, policies and standard operating procedures of the department. Assumes the responsibilities of the park manager in the absence of higher level employees.

1) Assists with the administrative activities to include, but not limited to, receiving and documenting revenues, preparing reports and making payments in accordance with standard operating procedures.
2) Assists with the operational activities to include supervising specific areas such as retail sales, day use areas, camping, cabins and other overnight accommodations or special use facilities.

3) Provides a variety of office functions related to callers, correspondence, document file and retrieval system, etc.
4) Performs continuous public relations activities and assists with educational and recreational programming.
5) Provides assistance to and works to maintain a safe environment for park visitors, to include enforcement of park rules, regulations and policies within established limits and in accordance with division policy.
6) Performs routine maintenance and repair activities on buildings and grounds.
7) Practice and promote teamwork within the State Park Service, throughout the agency and with external agency stakeholders. Represents office as an active member on agency teams assigned throughout the year.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

Associate's degree in park management or related field with (1) year related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Requirements:
1) Position requires medium to heavy lifting, walking and standing on uneven terrain, crawling and working at heights.

Exposure to weather conditions, cleaning agents and other material used in maintaining park facilities and grounds.
2) Ability to work a rotating schedule, to include day and night shifts as well as weekends and holidays.
3) Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, policies and organizational functions, and the ability to exercise judgement and discretion in interpreting and applying policies and procedures. Ability to effectively plan and organize work activities and prioritize task completion according to schedules and goals. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to train other employees and be courteously with other staff members as well as the public.
