The State of New Hampshire, Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, Division of Parks and Recreation, has a full-time vacancy for a Treatment Plant Operator II, for Mount Washington State Park, Gorham, New Hampshire. Position #43476


Summary:

To function as the lead operator of both the wastewater treatment plant and domestic water systems to ensure compliance with the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (DNCR) and NH Department of Environmental Services (DES)
standards at Mt. Washington State Park.

Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, functions as Lead Operator of Wastewater Treatment Plant, assuring the proper functioning of the systems and related components by regularly inspecting plant equipment and processes and performing adjustments, repairs, and maintenance as needed. Reports all findings and data to the Maintenance Supervisor.

Coordinates and oversees the work of other maintenance staff related to the Treatment Plant and water system and inspects work performed to ensure established standards and procedures are followed and compliance is obtained.

Compiles and tracks data and operational trends and makes recommendations to supervisor regarding improvements and variations in treatment plant operations.

Collects samples from various stages of the treatment train, including but not limited to, raw influent and treated effluent. Uses samples to perform in-house laboratory testing and analysis to assure proper functioning of plant processes and compliance with standards laid out in the NH DES Groundwater Discharge Permit.

Follows the schedule laid out in the Groundwater Discharge Permit by collecting effluent samples from Plant UV disinfection system and delivering them to outside lab(s) to ensure proper functioning of UV system and compliance with NH DES treated effluent quality standards.

Submits Monthly Operations Reports to NH DES Wastewater Engineering Bureau, as required under the direction of the Groundwater Discharge Permit.

Monitors and assists with the maintenance of drinking water systems, tracks water usage, and operates equipment to keep water storage tanks at adequate levels.

Collects drinking water samples in accordance with the NH DES Master Sampling Schedule for testing and analysis and delivers to outside lab(s) to assure compliance with NH DES standards.

Monitors, and assists with the maintenance and operation of additional Park systems, infrastructure, and utilities, including stationary emergency power generation sets, heating plants and fuel distribution systems. Removes snow and ice from walks and driveways to ensure access and public safety to property and buildings throughout the winter season.

Assists in other aspects of the Park’s Operation, including with visitor services and janitorial duties, as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
Associate degree from an accredited institute of higher education with courses in mechanical or electrical subjects. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience:
Three years of experience in the operation of wastewater or water treatment plants, or a related industry. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

License/Certification:
Possession of a valid driver’s license. Must obtain and maintain a NH Wastewater Treatment Facility Grade II Operator’s License within two years of employment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to stay overnight on the summit in quarters provided. Typical shifts are usually 10 hour days, four days on, three days off, spending three consecutive nights on the summit.

Must be able to travel safely up and down the mountain in all seasons and weather conditions by vehicle or on foot.
