GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


Manage the overall site operations, including public relations, marketing, and outreach, scheduling, buildings and grounds maintenance, visitor services, interpretive programming, personnel, and budget. Understand and support broader division and department initiatives. Comply with all policy and regulatory requirements. Work within best practices and established industry standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

  • Plan, develop, and coordinate events, programs, and reenactments.
  • Train and supervise tour guides, schedule tours, and provide guided tours as needed. Schedule, coordinate, and supervise school tours.
  • Initiate and provide proper paperwork for all special events.
  • Accurately inventory, distribute, and maintain living history clothing and supplies.
  • Inventory artifacts in Past Perfect.
  • Winterize and de-winterize buildings.
  • Develop, implement and adapt exhibits.
  • Hire, train, schedule, supervise, discipline, direct, and term permanent and seasonal employees. Work closely with friends groups, archaeologists, volunteers, fire/security contractors, and sanitation contractors.
  • Project and recommend changes to the biennial budget. Make purchases, inspect, and pay all invoices. Regularly monitor, track and reconcile site budget. Complete required budget paperwork promptly and thoroughly. Recommend major maintenance and special revenue projects. Manage petty cash and fee programs.
  • Provide excellent public service and manage community public relations with site visitors, friends groups, volunteers, tourism committees, NGOs, and state, federal, and municipal agencies. Work with the district manager to market events, programs, and general operations at the site.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all site visitors and the general public. Train and supervise staff to provide excellent customer service.
  • Assist in managing group shelter reservations and special events such as weddings, reunions, etc. Professionally handle correspondence, phone calls, calendars, and customer complaints.
  • Supervise maintenance personnel and maintenance projects. Manage trash pick up, mowing, weed eating, re-painting, whitewashing, snowplowing, cleaning restrooms and picnic tables.
  • Open and close interpretive buildings during the summer months. Close the front gate daily at sunset. Manage security and fire alarm operations.
  • Collect and submit revenue. Manage banking tasks, make deposits, and complete reports.
