GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Work with the Glendo State Park staff and the public to ensure visitors have a safe and enjoyable experience while visiting the park. To ensure this, this position performs required maintenance to protect, enhance, and preserve the natural and cultural resources of the site as well as office duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.

Fee Program, Reservation Program

  • Manage the collection, accounting, and remittance of fees the visitors pay when visiting the site.
  • Assist in managing the reservation program at the park. Help guide visitors through how to make a reservation. Check on reservations for customers. Manage the inventory of campsites and facilities on the reservation system.
  • Oversee the Park Merchandise program by ordering and selling merchandise to the public.

Equipment Maintenance & Operations

  • Safely operate, inspect, and maintain a wide variety of vehicles and equipment, including heavy equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment.
  • Complete vehicle and equipment maintenance reports and records.

Buildings, Facilities & Grounds Maintenance

  • Maintenance and repair of buildings, including carpentry, plumbing, minor electrical work, painting, welding/fabrication, snow removal, etc.
  • Grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, and campground maintenance.
  • Operation of water systems to include water sampling.
  • Operation of power and hand tools.
  • Utilize pesticides to maintain noxious weeds.
  • Snow removal during the winter months.
  • Complete building and facility maintenance reports and records.

Administrative Duties

  • Assist in requesting bids and price quotes from vendors.
  • Purchase materials and supplies.
  • Check property, equipment, and inventory for accuracy.
  • Complete monthly purchasing card reports and timesheets.

Supervision

  • Assist with the hiring of seasonal staff and volunteers.
  • Inspect work performed.
  • Train staff in safety, customer service, proper reporting, and the use of equipment.
  • Supervise seasonal staff and volunteers.

Programming & Customer Service

  • Assist in developing and executing park programs and events.
  • Provide excellent customer service.

Qualifications


PREFERENCES:

Preference may be given to applicants with 1 year of experience reconciling monetary reports and handling money, 1 year of experience running point of sale systems, plus 1 year of experience performing building and grounds maintenance, and vehicle and equipment maintenance.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of light and heavy equipment operation and maintenance
  • Intermediate skills in Excel and Word
  • Good working knowledge of computers, including data entry and word processing
  • Basic accounting skills
  • Knowledge of power and manual tools
  • Knowledge of sprinkler and irrigation systems
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Knowledge of carpentry, construction, welding, fabrication, and electrical
  • Skill in landscaping and ground maintenance
  • Basic leadership skills

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
High School Diploma

Experience:
0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in parks maintenance)

OR

Education & Experience Substitution:
1-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in parks maintenance)

None

Necessary Special Requirements


PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Must be able to drive vehicles, and operate cleaning and grounds maintenance equipment
  • May work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs with or without accommodation

NOTES:

  • FLSA: Non-exempt
  • Housing is available. A monthly fee of $100 will be charged to offset future continued maintenance of residential park properties.
  • The ability to obtain the appropriate level of water certification is highly desirable.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must obtain First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 1 year of hire.
