The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Bureau of Parks and Recreation Management is recruiting to fill a Natural Resources Region Program Manager (Southwest Parks and Recreation District Supervisor) vacancy. This position will be stationed in Fitchburg, however, telework may be available for up to 60% of the workweek.

Position Summary

The Natural Resources Region Program Manager is responsible for the supervision and administration of all aspects of the park and trail programs within the Southwest Park District. The position ensures integration of park and recreation activities with endangered resources, facilities and lands, wildlife management, and other department programs as a member of the Regional Land Team and the Park Management Team.

Salary Information

Starting pay is $40-43/hour for this position ($83,200 - $89,440 annually). Pay on appointment for current or former state employees is based on the State Compensation Plan. Current State employees applying as a transfer applicant will require DPM approval for a pay increase.

This position is in Pay Schedule/Range 81-02. A two-year Career Executive trial may be required.

Job Details

Employment will require the selected candidate to pass a background check. DNR does not sponsor work visas, thus, in compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Qualifications

Required qualifications for this position include experience in ALL of the following:

  • Experience and knowledge with policy development OR implementation.
  • Paid or unpaid experience working in parks OR recreation OR natural resources management
  • Paid or unpaid experience leading a team of others including training, coaching, mentoring etc.

Best-qualified applicants will also have the following preferred qualifications:

  • Experience supervising including directly supervising staff, employee discipline, performance evaluation
  • Knowledge and experience with policy development AND implementation
  • Paid or unpaid experiences working in parks AND recreation
