Job Responsibilities
A granitic gneiss outcropping atop the dramatic Blue Ridge Escarpment gives Caesars Head State Park its name. Every fall, from the easily-accessible overlook atop the rocky peak of the Blue Ridge Escarpment, sight-seers are treated to the Hawk Watch program and a spectacular view that extends into North Carolina and Georgia.
Job Purpose and Duties:
Under general supervision, assists with overall operation and maintenance of a State Park. Performs diversified duties as governed by general instruction, policies and standard operating procedures of the Department. Assumes the responsibilities of the Park Manager in the absence of higher level employees.
1) Assists with the administrative activities to include, but not limited to, receiving and documenting revenues, rotating shifts to include daily and nightly schedules, preparing reports and making payments in accordance with standard operating procedures.
2) Assists with the operational activities to include supervising specific areas such as retail sales, swimming areas, hiking trails, day use areas, camping and other overnight accommodations or special use facilities.
3) Provides a variety of office functions related to callers, correspondence, document file and retrieval system, etc.
4) Performs continuous public relations activities and assists with educational and recreational programming.
5) Provides assistance to and works to provide a safe environment to park visitors, to include enforcement of park rules, regulations and policies within established limits and in accordance with Division policy.
6) Performs limited maintenance activities on buildings and grounds (to include trails).
7) Supervises and directs part-time employees and volunteers as directed by job objectives.
8) Practice and promote teamwork within the State Park Service, throughout the agency and with external stakeholders. Represents office as an active member on agency teams assigned throughout the year.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Associate's degree in Park Management or related field with (1) year related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Requirements:
1) Position requires medium to heavy lifting, walking and standing on uneven terrain, crawling and working at heights.
Exposure to weather conditions, cleaning agents and other material used in maintaining park facilities and grounds.
Works rotating schedule to include day shifts, night shifts, weekends and holidays. Position requires travel between Caesars Head State Park and Jones Gap State Park.
2) Knowledge of bookkeeping, merchandising and applicable sales principles and practices. Knowledge of applicable terminology and research practices. Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, policies and organizational functions. Ability to effectively plan and organize work activities and prioritize task completion according to schedules and goals. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to train other employees. Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public. Ability to exercise judgement and discretion in interpreting and applying policies and procedures.

The towering mountain, which gives the park its name, serves as a backdrop for the 3,000 acre park and its facilities. Below this section of the Blue Ridge Mountains, South Carolina natives and visitors can enjoy Table Rock State Park cabins, a campground and an old-fashioned swimming hole on one of the park’s two lakes.
