Job Responsibilities

Covering 7,000 rolling acres of longleaf pine forest and fields, the H. Cooper Black Jr. Memorial Field Trial and Recreation Area is the setting for national-level field trial and retriever competitions.

In South Carolina, horseback riding is a popular activity, and this park is one of the most equestrian-friendly, with more than 20 miles of trails and sand roads offering top South Carolina horseback riding and an ample number of equestrian facilities including stables, kennels, corrals and arenas.

Job Purpose and Duties:

Assists with overall operation and maintenance of a State Park. Performs diversified duties as governed by general instruction, policies and standard operating procedures of the Department. Assumes the responsibilities of the Park Manager in the absence of higher level employees.

1) Assists with the administrative activities to include, but not limited to, receiving and documenting revenues, preparing reports and making payments in accordance with standard operating procedures.
2) Assists with the operational activities to include supervising specific areas such as retail sales, day use areas, camping, cabins and other overnight accommodations or special use facilities.
3) Provides a variety of office functions related to callers, correspondence, document file and retrieval system, etc.
4) Performs continuous public relations activities and assists with educational and recreational programming.
5) Provides assistance to and works to maintain a safe environment for park visitors, to include enforcement of park rules, regulations and policies within established limits and in accordance with Division policy
6) Performs routine maintenance and repair activities on buildings and grounds.
7) Practice and promote teamwork within the State Park Service, throughout the agency and with external agency stakeholders. Represents office as an active member on agency teams assigned throughout the year.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

Associate's degree in Park Management or related field with (1) year related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Requirements:

1) Position requires medium to heavy lifting, walking and standing on uneven terrain, crawling and working at heights. Exposure to weather conditions, cleaning agents and other material used in maintaining park facilities and grounds.
Ability to work a rotating schedule, to include day and night shifts as well as weekends and holidays.
2) Knowledge of applicable terminology and research practices. Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, policies and organizational functions. Ability to effectively plan and organize work activities and prioritize task completion according to schedules and goals. Ability to train other employees. Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public. Ability to exercise judgement and discretion in interpreting and applying policies and procedures. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
3) Must posses a valid South Carolina Driver's License.

Located in the South Carolina Sandhills region and named after the blackwater Little Pee Dee River, Little Pee Dee State Park is a subdued setting for those who want to enjoy the park’s natural features or fish the still waters of 54-acre Lake Norton for bream, bass and catfish. With its easy access to Interstate 95, and picnicking and camping amenities, Little Pee Dee is popular with coastal travelers and locals alike.

Job Purpose and Duties:

Under general supervision, assists with overall operation and maintenance of a State Park. Performs diversified duties as governed by general instruction, policies and standard operating procedures of the Department. Assumes the responsibilities of the Park Manager in the absence of higher level employees.

1) Assists with park administrative duties in accordance with Department guidelines and procedures and planning of long and short-term goals.
2) Collect and account for revenue and produce required reports.
3) Instruct, supervise and perform routine and preventative maintenance on grounds, buildings and equipment to meet established standards.
4) Manages assigned specific operations to include public use areas, retail operations and facilities.
5) Performs law enforcement activities within his/her authority and established policy and provides a safe environment for visitors and staff.
6) Assists in control of inventories of equipment and suppplies by issue, use and counts; completes data reports.
7) Interprets the cultural and natural resources of the State Park Service to park visitors.
8) Employee will be required to live in designated park housing to provide for security, safety and emergency response.
